Why go there
Forty-two km from Tumut, Talbingo lies on the edge of the Jounama Pond, downstream from the Tumut 3 Power Station. Nearby are the Yarrangobilly Caves, a network of almost 300 caves. The South Glory, Jersey and Jillabenan caves are open for inspection.
History
European settlers arrived in the late 1840s and Talbingo was the childhood home to Australian author Miles Franklin. The old town and many of the stations lie under the waters of Jounama Pond, created by the Snowy Mountains Scheme. From the late 1950s, it was an important work camp for labourers on the Scheme.
