Why go there
This classic country town has many heritage-listed buildings to admire. Of particular note are The Culcairn Hotel, built in 1891 and boasting striking leadlight windows, and the Station Master’s Residence, built in 1883.
History
From 1862 until 1865, the Culcairn area was the stamping ground of notorious bushranger Dan "Mad Dog" Morgan, who struck fear into those he encountered.
Morgan’s stand-off at Round Hill Station in 1864 resulted in the death of station overseer John McLean and a bounty of £1,000 being placed on Morgan’s head.
